Another branch of the understandably popular Ashoka chain (there are seven in total in Glasgow), the West End version is in the shadow of the recently reopened Kelvingrove Art Gallery and is just as much of an attraction to some. With a rich contemporary design, this is a cosy outpost and the food remains exceptional and thoroughly authentic, served by people who know what they’re doing. Start with a variety of pakoras or try Indian barbeque with the Tandoori Sizzlas before moving onto something more substantial. There’s all the usual favourites for main courses while the house specialities are an adventurous selection. Try salmon in tamarind masala or a Cantonese inspired dish with capsicums and cashew nuts, all served with garlic potatoes. There’s also an impressive vegetarian menu, a rare thing indeed in Indian restaurants. For extra value bring the kids on a Sunday and they eat for free!
